The Birthday Party

Here in the Northeast (US) it has been one long, very hot Summer! Not to mention all the heavy rains and flooding. So when a perfect day comes along, we all long to be outdoors enjoying the sunshine with a light breeze.

So on Saturday night when my friend Mary called me late at night desperate to have someone help work with her at the Horse Farm yesterday, I definitely jumped at the chance! Every Sunday she does Birthday parties at the Barn for children who ride there. So between her, myself and her daughter Liz, we divided the children into 3 separate groups. Liz took the 1st group to the horse ring where the children – some only 4 yrs. of age – get to ride on the ponies. Their faces are priceless as they realize the horses are real and a little bigger than they see in pictures or on TV!

Mary took the 2nd group on a tour of the Barn to see all the Horses in their stalls, they also got to feed the Horses some carrots and see how they are groomed; while I took the 3rd group to do (what else?) but crafts! We had cutouts of horses which they decorated with crystals and beads, and letters to put their names on their little decretive horses. Of course I think I wound up with more “glitter glue” on myself than they used on the little horse cut-outs. When they were finally dried, the children could each take home their work of art.

Each activity takes about 20 min and then we rotate each group so they all get a chance to participate in each activity. Then it was time for pizza at the picnic tables, all of which were decorated with horse themed party goods. Finally the Birthday cake, decorated in whatever the theme of the party is. Most of the girls want “My Little Pony” parties; whereas the boys want either a horse theme, Spiderman or Superman. The party was a success, as each child left with their party bags filled with candy and a little horse, and a big smile on their little faces as they left to go home.

The Dark Brown Quarter Horse is Bailey (Mary’s Horse). The White Horse, Lilly, had her head out of the window the whole time right next to where the children were having their cake.
