The Super Moon

Super Moon

Super Moon, September 13, 2016

On Sunday, my friend and I had a wonderful day visiting our friend in Beacon, New York.  Hidden in the mountains about 1 hour from where I live; Beacon is a small town whose history goes back about at least 400 years.

After lunch we walked along the Hudson River; yes, I took lots of pictures which will be in a later article. After hours of a delightful day with wonderful friends and perfect weather; as dusk approached, my friend and I headed back home.  If anyone knows the mountainous region hidden up the Taconic, you will understand our ride home.  A very narrow highway of two lanes, high up in Dutchess County.  We were about 5 minutes into our ride home along the twists and turns of the Taconic Parkway, when we came face to face to the SUPER MOON.

Being so high up it felt as though we could literally reach out and touch this Moon! I know people had been talking about the Super Moon for days on the news, but until you envision this act of nature, you would never have believed all the hype regarding this Moon.

The Super Moon, which I later found out was seen around the World, is the largest Moon in the past 68 years.  The phenomenon of this Moon occurs when it is the closest to Earth. Although astrologers state that this Super Moon “appears” to be 30% brighter and 14% bigger then the monthly Full Moon.  Well, as my friend and I will tell you, being at the high point of the Mountain, this impressive sight was close enough to drive right into.  A perfect way to end the evening of our perfect day.

For those who may have missed this rare astrological sight, your next chance will be December 6, 2052!
