When I first started on Etsy 9 years ago, life was completely different. Doing a Treasury was a sure guarantee that your items were being seen by many others promoting on Etsy. As with everything, times have changed. Two years ago Etsy announced that Treasury’s were no longer a good way to Promote your items, indicating that with so many outside sources (Social Media sites) that the only way to promote your Shop and items was through Social Media. These sites, outside of Etsy, are Pinterest, Twitter, Google+, Facebook, Wanelo – just to name a few. I have found that posting your items on Google+ is the best source for promoting outside of Etsy (I will explain why and the whole process in a bit).
Before you start any promotion on Social Media sites, you first need to make sure all the titles of your items are listed by using “Key Words”.
For those of you not familiar with using Key Words, from experience I can tell you that by changing my titles using the Key Words for a specific item has greatly increased its views on many within my Shops. The Key Words help with anyone shopping using SEO’s.
SEO, Search Engine, is using the best possible words to describe your Shop and your items, words that a Buyer would use when looking for a specific item. When re-titling your item descriptions, think like a shopper –what words would you use when looking for a specific item or Shop? Keep these Keywords in mind when “Tagging” your item’s listings, this helps place your listing in the various “Browse” pages and “Categories” on Etsy, as well as getting found through Etsy’s on-site search function. I will be glad to help you finding the exact “keywords” and explain in more detail how to retitle a specific item.
Once this is done you are now ready to start promoting your specific items on the various Social Media sites. If you use Pinterest, consider making as many Boards as possible, so when promoting your items or an item from another Shop, they can be easily found in various topics. I have set up a specific Board for each Team I am on – posting my Team’s items on these Boards, then repost them in other sections best describing their item.
Google+, as I mentioned is one of the best Social Media site you can promote items from your Shops, as well as those of your Teammates. To see what I am referring to, this is my Google+ site – https://plus.google.com/u/0/+PamelaBaker1116. If you notice you have a home page, as well as a profile page (which only shows items I have promoted) the home page shows items that others you may be connected with have posted items. When you post an item you will see next to the comments a small circle with a +1 in it. Make sure you click that +1 – each time someone reclicks that +1 – it moves your item higher up in the Google Search page. As an example, I have taken one of Natasha’s items (MermaidsWhispers) and posted on my Google+ home page (which shows up on my Profile page also) by posting the URL of the item – right under the URL – *it is important to #hashtag exactly the information in the URL – then #hashtag the Shop’s name. Once posted I will click +1 and leave a comment. Each person who goes in clicks +1 on your item – it will move it up in a Google Search – hopefully to p1!
I chose this item from Natasha’s site –

MermaidsWhispers:MasonJar WeddingSandCeremony Set
this item is now posted on my Profile page and Home page – each person who goes in and clicks +1 – which helps move your item up to the first page of Google Search. By using the description of the item “Wedding Sand Ceremony Jar Set” in Google Search – it now shows up on p.1 of Google Search. You can do this as often as you like for your items or a particular item you wish to Promote!!!
I will continue each week to explain more of other Social Media sites, such as Wanelo, Twitter, my Promotional Blog site, etc.
Please feel free to contact me via convo if through this Blog to ask any questions you may have. Hope this helps.

The Christmas Pageant
In the midst of getting my Shop’s ready for Christmas, filling Custom Orders, etc., my main goal during the Christmas Holiday, is the preparation of our annual Christmas Pageant in our Parish Church. This year marks my 25th year of organizing the Pageant, which started when my boys were very young. In the beginning we would average about 15 children participating in the Pageant.
Since that time, we have now grown to 70 children. This year we had 27 little Angels, as well as our group of Little Shepherds. The planning of our Pageant begins in early November and by the beginning of December, our little Committee of 3, my daughter, Kelly, Jan , and myself, start assigning the parts. The children range in age from 3 to 12. I should add that the youngest was 5 mo, playing the part of Baby Jesus (we always have a real baby!). The older children are given the main parts of Mary, Joseph, the Angel Gabriel, Wisemen, led by the Star Angels guiding their way while carrying the “Star” they follow. Something our little Angels and Shepherds look forward to as they progress from year to year. Once the parts have been assigned, without hurt feelings, and the comments from a few of the parents, who want their child to have one of the “main” parts, the Practices begin!
The past few years, I have turned the Directing over to my daughter Kelly, while I concentrate on getting all the costumes ready for the children, making a few alterations here and there. This year with so many little Angels, I had to quickly order new Angels Costumes for our “main Angels”. It is amazing to see how well Kelly works with the children – by the end of the first practice, all the children know exactly what to do, where to stand, and all their cues.
The success of the Pageant is well noted as the Narrators (children grades 5-7) begin to tell the story of the Nativity, and you look at the smiles on the faces of each parent. Although our little angels, who range in age from age 4 – 7, completely steal the show; along with our little shepherds of the same age group, the other children are so professional, as they kneel so reverently portraying, Mary and Jesus from the time they are approached by the Angel Gabriel, to the birth of Jesus, and the arrival of the Wisemen. Our youngest participant this year was just 5 mos. old, playing the “Infant Jesus”, love the little Bonnet on the Baby with the pacifier in her mouth.
Although our little angels, who I said were only 3 and 4 years old, completely steal the show; the other children are so professional, while they kneel so reverently as they portray, Mary and Joseph, from the time they are approached by the Angel Gabriel, to the birth of Jesus, and the arrival of The Three Wisemen.
The final scene begins with the Children’s Choir singing “The Little Drummer Boy” (this year we had 2 Drummer girls, and one little Drummer Boy all just 4 yrs. of age. They walk so very slowly down the center aisle playing their drums while the choir sings. The Little Drummer with the hat is my grandson, Zachary. The most adorable thing is not only watching them, but watching the little Angels singing their hearts out – pa rum pum pum pum, I could continue talking about the beauty of the children in the Pageant, but the pictures tell it all.
A lot of the credit goes not just to the Director, but to the small group of parents, as well as a few students, two of whom, Olivia and Alyssa, who both portrayed Mary a few years ago; who dedicate their time each year helping with the Pageant. They each automatically assume the various jobs that they have taken over each year; assembling the little Angels, Shepherds, and Wisemen, as well as the Drummer Boy’s and Girl. It is this team work that makes this so successful.
I hope you enjoy looking at the pictures, visualizing each child in their part; as much as I enjoy working with these little ones, while already thinking ahead of next year’s Pageant!
Although I am the Coordinator, I am also a proud “Grandma” who has watched little Zachary start at age 2 mos., as “Baby Jesus, only to graduate to a Shepherd at age 2 -3 then the “Little Drummer Boy”!
Friday the 13th
Friday the 13th, has long been a day of Superstitions for many. Technically known as triskaidekaphobia meaning fear of the number thirteen, which stems from the Greek word friggatriskaidekaphobia (Frigga being the name of the Norse goddess for which translated to the English vernacular as “Friday”).
Many of those who believe in Superstitions, regard Friday the 13th as unlucky, and won’t even leave their homes or plan anything that day. As far back as the 14th Century, Friday has always been an unlucky number and an unlucky day. But it wasn’t until the mid-19th Century that the first documented evidence of “Friday the 13th”, being noted in the 1869 biography of Gioachino Rossini, who died on Friday the 13th. As far back as the earliest 19th Century, Rossini has been regarded as one of the best “Opera” composers of all time.
Also relating to the Superstitions of Friday 13th, it was on this date in October 1307 that the History of the Knights of Templar changed. It was on this date that hundreds of the Knights Templar were arrested in France. Trying to increase the popularity of the French Crown, Philip IV was the force behind this ruthless move; but it only tarnished the historical reputation of Clement V. From the very day of Clement V’s coronation, the king falsely charged the Templars with heresy, immorality and abuses, and undermined the authority of the Catholic Church and the Pope.
Although the Christian religion does not believe in “superstitions” – the following are theories passed through many centuries. Thirteen also makes reference to the Last Supper when it is was believed that one of the thirteen diners will die soon after the “Supper”. Friday is also the day that Jesus was crucified, again making Friday a day to be feared.
Although they are just “superstitions” stemming from Centuries of “folklore” passed done to various generations, I must make note of the horrendous storm with thunder, lighting, and flooding, was began last night, only to awake this morning to look out the window on Friday the 13th to see trees down once again, roads flooded and closed. Also noted is the destruction of 6 blocks of stores and the newly rebuilt Boardwalk from a horrendous fire which started yesterday in “Seaside Heights” NJ, which has just finished rebuilding after the destruction a year ago from Hurricane Sandy. Today they are just discovering that everything rebuild and been once again destroyed.
So those who think Friday the 13th is just another day, I really wonder as I look around at all the destruction this morning.
I should note my Grandmother was born on Friday the 13th (December 13), and no she was not a witch, or practiced spells, but was a great influence in my life, and who says I am normal!
